Alastair Storie Cricketer

Alastair Caleb Storie (born July 25, 1965 in Bishopbriggs) is a former Scottish cricketer. A right-handed batsman, Storie played cricket in England with both Warwickshire and Northamptonshire as well as a stint in South Africa with Free State. He played 55 first class and 34 List A matches. He was the first Northamptonshire batsman to score a century on first class debut. He also scored a century in his final first class appearance (for Scotland). In 1988, Storie took 5 catches in an innings while playing for Warwickshire against Leicestershire at Edgbaston. After his professional cricket career Alastair Storie gained a BA in English & Sociology and taught English for 12 years. He has since retrained as a psychologist and works as a sport psychology consultant. He has also lectured in the subject at Heriot-Watt University, The University of Edinburgh and Abertay Dundee University. Storie's parents emigrated to South Africa in the 1970s and he attended St. Stithians College, Johannesburg, where he played in the same school teams as four future Western Province first class cricketers (D.B. Rundle, J.E. Nolte, C.E. Frost, and G.J. Turner). He represented The Wanderers' Club in Johannesburg from 1980–1985 and Old Johannians Cricket Club from 1985–1987, with whom he won the Johannesburg premier league in the 1986/87 season. He also hold winners' medals in the Northants County League (1986) and the Birmingham League (1988). In 1992/93 he captained Latrobe Cricket Club in Tasmania and guided them to the semi-finals of the Tasmanian cup. In this season he was the North-West Coast player of season, setting a club record of 677 runs, which beat the previous record of 548 runs scored by Pakistani test player Sadiq Mohammed in 1974/75. Alastair Storie played club cricket in Scotland from 1989–97 and was Scottish batsman of the year in 1993. He was professional at Stewarts/Melville CC in 1989 when they gained promotion to the East League Division 1, and still holds the record for the number of runs in a season in this league. He has also won the Western Union league batting award (1995). After moving to the Thames Valley area he captained Beaconsfied to the Buckinghamshire Cup in 2001, winning the man-of-the match award in the victory over Marlow. In 2005 he coached Uxbridge CC to promotion from the Middlesex division 1 to the premier division.
