Bennie Daniels Jr. (born June 17, 1932) is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. He pitched from 1957-1965 for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Senators. During a 9-season career, Daniels compiled 45 wins, 471 strikeouts, and a 4.44 earned run average.Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Daniels began his career in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 1951 with Great Falls in the Pioneer League. He moved up in the minor leagues and after a good 17-8 season with Hollywood in the Pacific Coast League, Pittsburgh called him up in September.Daniels has the distinction of starting the last game played in Ebbets Field by the Brooklyn Dodgers on September 24, 1957. Daniels, pitching for the Pirates, was defeated by Danny McDevitt of the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2-0.Daniels was involved in one of the first trades with the Washington Senators expansion team, being traded to them from the Pirates in the 1960 offseason in a deal for Bobby Shantz.
