Charles Albert Crampton Scientist

Charles Albert Crampton, M.D. (1858–1915) was an American chemist, born at Davenport, Iowa. He was educated at Purdue (A.C.) and the University of Michigan (Ph.C.). He served as assistant chemist in the United States Department of Agriculture, and became chief chemist of the Internal Revenue Bureau in 1893.He built the Crampton House in Somerset, Maryland, and served as the town's first mayor from 1906-1910. His son, Carl, was the first child born in Somerset, and his family owned the town's first automobile.In 1910 he became chief of the division of food and drugs products.
