Charles Cunliffe Cricketer

Charles Morley Cunliffe (2 September 1858 - 15 October 1884) was an English cricketer who played for Kent from 1877 to 1880. Cunliffe was born at Leyton, Essex, the son of Roger and Marion Cunliffe of Tunbridge Wells. He was educated at Rugby School where he was in the first XI cricket for three years. He made his debut for Kent against Derbyshire in July 1877 at the age of 18. He was a regular bowler for Kent for three years taking 5 wickets in an innings eleven times, and three times taking ten wickets in a match. He played club cricket for Orleans Club. Cunliffe was a right-handed batsman and played 44 innings in 25 first class matches with an average of 9.45 and a top score of 47. He was a right-arm round arm medium pace bowler and took 93 first class wickets with an average of 15.00 and a best performance of 7-25. Cunliffe died suddenly at Davos Platz, Switzerland aged 26.
