Colin Newton (born Colin David Newton, 18 April 1977, Macduff, Aberdeenshire, Scotland) is the Scottish drummer for the Scottish indie rock band, Idlewild.A former pizza baker, Newton is known for his galloping drum-style, and his use of Sabian equipment. Prior to joining Idlewild, Newton studied biology at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He was taught to play the drums by Mrs. Sharp, a music teacher at Banff Academy in that time, where he attended school in his teenage years.He is married to Sheri (née Friers). They have a son called Cohen and twin daughters called Teigan and Pippa. Colin and his family live in North Berwick.
