Cyril Bernard Papali

Father Cyril Bernard Papali OCD or "Fr. Cyril Bernard of the Mother of God OCD" (O.C.D.) was a Carmelite monk of the Manjummel Province. A multi-talented thinker and writer, he was born in Cochin, Kerala, India in 1902. In his pre-Vatican days, his interests included science, music, and photography.Father Bernard was the last monk to hold the position of TOCD in Manjummel. He was later called to Rome to serve in the Vatican, and was assigned peritus to the Second Vatican Council on the question of the laity and non-Christian religions. He also accompanied Pope Paul VI on his journey to the Philippines and India and wrote several classics, including Hinduism: Religion and Philosophy and "La Madonna".
