Dula Bhaya Kag Writer
Dula Bhaya Kag (November 25, 1902 - February 22, 1977) was a poet born in Kagdham(Majadar) village near Mahuva in Gujarat, India. He was of the Charan caste. Born in the year 1903 in a village in the Saurashtra Region, Dula Bhaya Kag was only educated upto Class five, and then had to tend his family's cattle. He became involved in the national movement and evinced interest in prohibition activities after the formation of Saurashtra State. He donated his land to Vinoba Bhave’s Bhudan Movement. Kag published “Kagvani” in eight volumes, devotional songs, episodes from Ramayana and Mahabharata and songs based on Gandhian philosophy and the Bhudan Movement. He died on 22 February 1977. The subject of his poems was mainly spiritual and devotional, he also wrote eulogic poems for Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave. His poems are published in eight volumes known as Kagvani. In year 1962, he was awarded Padma Shri. Although his own schooling was limited, his poems became part of a curriculum ranging from elementary to masters courses. On November 25, 2004, department of posts, government of India released commemorative stamp from Ahmedabad in denomination of INR 5.0 to mark his 102nd birth anniversary. Every year on the anniversary of his death five awards named after him are given at Kagdham by Pujya Morari Bapu.
