Edwin Jongejans Athlete

Edwin Jongejans is a retired diver from the Netherlands, who represented his native country at two consecutive Summer Olympics: 1988 and 1992. Jongejans' best performance was winning the world title in the men's 1 metre springboard event at the 1991 World Aquatics Championships in Perth, Australia, for which he was named Dutch Sportsman of the Year (1991) alongside boxer Arnold Vanderlyde. Jongejans surprised the favored Chinese and held off a late charge by Mark Lenzi of the United States . His victory was the first by a non-American in world championship men's diving since 1975, when Greg Louganis accounted for five of the six events. Jongejans' sister Daphne was also a well-known international diver.
