Ernst Dehmel Military person

Ernst Dehmel (7 April 1915 — 7 August 1945) was a Sturmbannführer (Major) in the Waffen SS during World War II who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.Ernst Dehmel was awarded the Knight's cross while in command of the 3rd Sturmgeschütz (Self-propelled assault gun, StuG) Battalion, 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf in August 1943, for his unit's role in the Battle of Kursk and the Battle of Belgorod.Ernst Dehmel survived the war, but was beaten to death by French soldiers at Remscheid-Lüttringhausen on 7 August 1945.
