Friedrich Wunderlich Military person

Friedrich Wunderlich (13 August 1891 – 27 March 1977) was a Fregattenkapitän with the Kriegsmarine during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (German: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.Wunderlich joined the Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial German Navy) on 1 April 1910. As of August 1914, he served as an adjutant on SMS Berlin. Following this assignment, he transferred to the U-boat force. He served as a watch officer on SM U-16, SM U-69 and SM U-157. In 1917 he was appointed commander of SM UB-104. His last command at the end of World War I was commander of SM UC-94. Following World War I, he was released from active service on 16 January 1921 holding the rank of charakterisierter Kapitänleutnant (captain-lieutenant).Wunderlich was reactivated for active service in the Kriegsmarine—the navy of Nazi Germany—on 22 August 1939 shortly before the outbreak of World War II.
