Gus ReyesBorn June 27, 1977, Gus Reyes is a Mexican musician and composer primarily focused on film scoring.Reyes began his studies in music at the age of 8. His father, Jesus Gustavo Ramírez Avila, student of the great guitar players Manuel López Ramos (México 1929-2006) and Andrés Segovia (Spain, 1893-1987), was his first teacher in music. He studied in many important music institutions ending with his application to the "Cardenal Miranda Institute", where Reyes spent most of his youth studying music. Great Mexican teachers had been part of his education, like Xavier Gonzalez Tezcucano (Composer, Orchestral and Choral Conductor), Luis Armando Elias Chain (Composer), Philippe H. Tolon (Lead Violinist), Juan Trigos (Composer), Jorge Torres Sáenz (Composer), Jaime Uribe (Composer and Musical analyst), Eduardo Gamboa (Composer), among others. Reyes studied majors in Composition, Orchestral and Choral Conducting and Musicology.There are countless examples of Reyes's music in Mexican film industry like "Magnicidio" (2002), "El Ultimo Evangelio" (2008), "El Ultimo País Mágico" (2005), "El Secreto" (2010) and the soon to be released films "The Dark Side of Light" (2014) and "El Entrenador" (2014). Reyes also has collaborated with other composers like Andres Sanchez-Maher in "El Mas Buscado" (2014) and Francisco Albisua in "El Fantástico Mundo de Juan Orol" (2012) as additional composer and orchestrator.Reyes and Sanchez-Maher were part of the Latin Grammy award winning unplugged of the rock band "Zoé" for their arrangements and orchestrations in 2011.Invited by Bertha Navarro (Producer of Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Devil's Backbone"), Reyes has been part of all Mexico City's Film Music Labs since 2010 as a Film Scoring Advisor."The Dark Side of Light Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" (El Lado Oscuro de la Luz) was nominated on the IX edition of the Jerry Goldsmith Awards for best music for a film at the International Film Music Festival of Cordoba, Spain. With this, Reyes becomes the first Mexican composer nominated for an International Award in this category. Published by Kronos Records and MovieScore Media, this soundtrack is also considered by several critics around the world as one of the best of 2014.
