H. V. Evatt Politician

Herbert Vere "H.V." Evatt (aka Doc Evatt), QC KStJ (30 April 1894 – 2 November 1965), was an Australian jurist, lawyer, parliamentarian and writer.He was the Chief Justice of New South Wales from 1960 to 1962, the Leader of the Australian Labor Party (and Leader of the Opposition) from 1951 to 1960, the third President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1948 to 1949 and helped draft the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first Chairman of the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission in 1946, the de facto Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney-General and Minister for External Affairs in the Australian War Cabinet from 1941 to 1949, and a Justice of the High Court of Australia from 1930 to 1940.
