Young was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1920s and '30s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and England, and at club level for Bradford Northern (twice), Huddersfield, and Castleford, as a Loose forward/Lock, i.e. number 13, during the era of contested scrums.
