Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo Cleric

Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo (born July 9, 1950 in Sedayu, Bantul, Yogyakarta) is an Indonesian prelate and the current Archbishop of Jakarta, Indonesia, having previously served as Archbishop of Semarang (1997-2009).He entered St Peter Canisius Minor seminary in Mertoyudan, Central Java in 1968. He completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Theology at Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta in 1971 and doctoral degree from Pontifical Urbaniana University Rome in 1981.He was ordained priest of Archdiocese of Semarang on January 26, 1976. John Paul II'>Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Semarang on April 21, 1997. He received episcopal consecration from Julius Cardinal Darmaatmadja on August 22, 1997. He was also appointed Ordinary of the Indonesian Military Forces (TNI) Ordinariate on Jan 2, 2006. On July 25, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of Jakarta. He became Archbishop of Jakarta on June 28, 2010 after Pope Benedict XVI accepted the resignation of Julius Cardinal Darmaatmadja.
