Jacob K. Javits Senator

Jacob Koppel "Jake" Javits (May 18, 1904 – March 7, 1986) was a Republican Party politician who served as a United States Senator from New York from 1957 to 1981. He was one of the most liberal of liberal Republicans serving in Congress in the 20th Century. He was originally allied with Governor Nelson Rockefeller, and fellow Senators Irving Ives and Kenneth Keating. He voted with Democrats more often than with Republicans. He was regarded as the most far to the left of all Republicans in the Senate. No Republican in the Senate ever had a lower rating from the American Conservative Union. His highest rating was 11% in 1983, his lowest were 5 years of 0.
