James Clark McReynolds Judge

James Clark McReynolds (February 3, 1862 – August 24, 1946) was an American lawyer and judge who served as United States Attorney General under President Woodrow Wilson and as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He served on the Court from October 12, 1914 to his retirement on January 31, 1941, and was known for his conservative opinions opposing much of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal legislation.McReynolds is known for his openly professed antisemitism, racism and misogyny. This resulted in severe personal conflicts with fellow Supreme Court judges Louis Brandeis, Benjamin N. Cardozo and Felix Frankfurter who were Jews. Fellow judges and other employees of the Supreme Court later described him as bad-tempered or outright rude, and have suggested his many abrasive personal traits affected his performance as a Supreme Court judge.
