Jessica Watson
Jessica Watson, OAM (born 18 May 1993) is an Australian sailor. In 2009/2010 she sailed non-stop, solo and unassisted around the world at the age of 16. Although she successfully completed a circumnavigation, having arrived back at the point of departure, following a route used by other accepted circumnavigators, the route did not meet World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) present criteria for circumnavigation of the globe.Watson departed from Sydney on 18 October 2009, heading eastbound over the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. She returned to Sydney on 15 May 2010, three days before her 17th birthday.Watson was named the 2011 Young Australian of the Year, and the following year was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia. She currently resides in Buderim, Queensland.
