John Manners Cricketer

John Errol Manners is a former English cricketer. Manners was a right-handed batsman. Manners made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 1937 against Gloucestershire, where on debut Manners scored his maiden half century with a score of 81. Manners represented Hampshire in four first-class matches during the 1936 season. Manners next first-class appearance came after the Second World War for the Combined Services, making his debut for them against Gloucestershire. During the 1947 County Championship Manners represented Hampshire in a single first-class match against Kent, where he scored his maiden first-class century with a score of 121. In 1948 Manners played his final two first-class matches for Hampshire against Derbyshire and Essex. In Manners seven first-class matches he scored 355 runs at a batting average of 32.27 and a high score of 121. From the end of Manners spell with Hampshire, he played a further ten first-class matches for the Combined Services, scoring three additional centuries, including his highest first-class score of 147 against Gloucestershire. Manners final first-class match for the Combined Services came against Gloucestershire in the 1953 season. In his twelve first-class matches for the Combined Services, Manners scored 792 runs at a batting average of 34.43, with three centuries and two half centuries. Manners highest score for the Combined Services was 147. In 1952 Manners played a single match for the Marylebone Cricket Club against former club Hampshire. In addition Manners played his final first-class for the Free Foresters against Oxford University in 1953. In Manners overall first-class career he played 21 matches, scoring 1,162 runs at a batting average of 31.40, with four centuries, three half centuries and a high score of 147.
