John Rood Politician

John C. Rood (born 1968) was Acting Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 13, 2006 as Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation.From February 2005 to October 2006 he served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterproliferation Strategy at the National Security Council. From September 2003 to February 2005, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Forces Policy at the Department of Defense. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Proliferation Strategy, Counterproliferation and Homeland Defense at the United States National Security Council. Rood came to the Central Intelligence Agency as a summer intern, then spent eleven years there as a missile development analyst. He was on the staff of U.S. Senator Jon Kyl for four years.Mr. Rood received his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University (1990).
