José Narro Robles Scientist

José Narro Robles (born December 5, 1948 in Saltillo, Coahuila) is a Mexican researcher and academic. He is a former director of the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and was elected the 23rd President (or "Rector") of that institution on November 20, 2007.Narro Robles graduated with a bachelor's degree in Medicine with honours at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (1973) and holds a postgraduate degree in Community Medicine from the University of Birmingham (1978) in the United Kingdom.He has published over 56 articles and has enacted as advisor for the World Health Organization. He has been an active a member of the National Academy of Medicine since 1992. Aside from the academic field, José Narro Robles has worked as General Director of Health Services of the Mexican Federal District, as the Secretary-General of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Undersecretary of Migratory Services and Population at the Ministry of the Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación) and Undersecretary of Health at the Federal Secretariat of Health.
