Joseph Addabbo Jr. Politician

Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. (born May 13, 1964) is an American politician, a Democratic member of the New York State Senate from the 15th District representing Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth and parts of South Ozone Park, Ridgewood, Woodside and The Rockaways. In the 2008 elections, he defeated 10-term incumbent Serphin Maltese by 15 points.He was born in 1964, the youngest child of Joseph and Grace Addabbo, he attended Nativity BVM School in Ozone Park and Archbishop Molloy High School (1982). He received degrees from St. John's University (1986) and Touro Law School. Addabbo practiced law for ten years at Addabbo and Greenberg before being elected to the New York City Council in 2001. He was re-elected three times and served as a council member for eight years. Addabbo and his wife, Dawn, have two daughters, Alexis and Arianna. His father, Joseph P. Addabbo, Sr., served 13 terms in the United States House of Representatives.Addabbo is a resident of the Tudor Village section of Ozone Park.On December 2, 2009, Addabbo was one of eight Democratic state senators to vote against same-sex marriage legislation, which failed to pass the Senate.On June 24, 2011, Addabbo supported gay marriage by voting for the "Marriage Equality Enactment" Bill# A-8354, which successfully passed in the Senate.
