Joyce Falconer

Joyce Falconer, born in 1969, was raised in a housing scheme in Torry, which is across the River Dee from Aberdeen fish market. Educated at Tullos Primary and Torry Academy where her natural talents for performing and music were encouraged. She then went to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Joyce has gone on to enjoy a successful career in Scottish Theatre but it is her role of Roisin Henderson in the BBC Scotland soap opera, River City for which she is now most renowned. Joyce Falconer was invited to become an Honorary member of St Andrews Kilrymont Rotary Club in 2006. Joyce writes and performs her own material, mainly in Scots and is an accomplished After-Dinner Speaker, Host/M. C and asset to any Burns Night. Falconer starred in the play adaptation of the book Sunset Song, in which she plays the main characters mother, and other characters. She is rumored that she could possibly play a guest role in long-running British drama Coronation Street. Falconer was invited to address the 16,000 strong crowd at Aberdeen's 06/07 Hogmanay street party, but was boo'ed and jeered by the crowd as she sang an incomprehensible traditional song while playing the accordion. She also gave a short speech advocating Scottish Nationalism and the ending of the trident nuclear weapons program which left the previously excited crowd bemused and speechless before the midnight bells, leaving many with the feeling that the night had ended in what was undeniably a damp squib. Aberdeen's "Hogmanay Live" was axed the following year due to budget cutbacks.
