Karel Lismont Athlete

Karel Lismont (born 8 March 1949 in Borgloon) is a former Belgian athlete, who competed mostly in the marathon. He won two Olympic medals: a silver medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich and a bronze at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in the same event. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 1971, he won a gold medal in the marathon. In addition, he won two European Championships bronze medals: in Prague in 1978, and in Athens in 1982. He also competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic marathons, finishing ninth and twenty-fourth, respectively. Lismont was less successful as a 10,000 metres runner than as a marathoner, finishing eleventh in the 1976 Summer Olympics and outside the top fifteen at the 1978 European Athletics Championships. In cross country, he won the bronze medal at the 1978 IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
