Karen Leibovici Politician

Karen Leibovici (born May 27, 1952) is a politician from Edmonton, Alberta.Leibovici was elected to the Alberta Provincial Legislature as a Member of Legislative Assembly in 1993 for the Edmonton Meadowlark provincial riding for the Alberta Liberal Party. She held that seat for two terms (until her defeat in 2001), along with the positions of Labour Critic, Health Critic, Intergovernmental Affairs Critic and Caucus Whip.In the 2001 Edmonton municipal election she was elected to City Council and has been re-elected in 2004 and 2007 for Ward 1 and 2010 for Ward 5. Karen has served as Chair or Vice Chair for Community Services Committee, Executive committee and Transportation and Public Works Committee. She was re-elected to the Edmonton Police Commission. Karen is currently the President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. In 2013 Leibovici unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Edmonton.
