Ken Skates Politician

Ken Skates AM is a Welsh Labour politician, who has represented the constituency of Clwyd South since the National Assembly for Wales election of 2011.Skates is from Flintshire, North Wales and attended Ysgol y Waun in Gwernaffield and the Alun School, Mold, where he studied A-levels in physics, maths, English and politics. After achieving four A grades he went to Cambridge University to study social and political science, specialising in European regional policy and economics. Cambridge University, .After graduating, Ken took time out in America and then joined the Wrexham Leader newspaper. He studied for his NVQ at Yale College in Wrexham and did freelance work for the BBC and the Daily Express. Ken has also worked as office manager for Mark Tami, Labour MP for Alyn and Deeside, and helped secure funding for the Airbus plant in Broughton, which employs about 6,000 people.Ken was elected with 42.4% of the vote in Clwyd South in 2011. He has a keen interest in enhancing the identity and tourism potential of Clwyd South, as well as improving mental health care and physical fitness. He is also determined to improve job and training prospects for young people, as well as protect crucial services for the vulnerable.In 2012 he was one of four AMs to stand up in the Senedd chamber to talk about their experiences with mental health problems.Ken Skates was appointed by First Minister Carwyn Jones, as Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology in June 2013.
