Lewis F. Linn Politician
Lewis Fields Linn (November 5, 1796 – October 3, 1843) was a Jacksonian Democratic U.S. Senator for the state of Missouri born in Kentucky. He served in that role from 1833 to 1843. Four states have counties named after him: Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Oregon. Linneus, Missouri, West Linn, Oregon, and Linnton, Oregon were also named after the ex-senator. Linn was the brother-in-law of James Hugh Relfe, half brother of Henry Dodge and uncle of his son Augustus C. Dodge. He was to support his nephew William Pope McArthur in his efforts to get Naval appointments as McArthur was to become the first surveyor the Pacific Coast.
