Marcia Pankratz Athlete

Marcia Anne Pankratz (born October 1, 1964 in Wakefield, Massachusetts) is a former field hockey forward from the United States, who participated in two Summer Olympics. In 1988 she finished in eighth position with Team USA, in 1996 she claimed the fifth spot. A spirited vice-captain of the USA team, Pankratz helped spark the USA squad from 1985-1996. She played at the Hockey World Cup in 1986 and 1994 (bronze medal). She earned a bronze medal at the 1991 Pan American Games and added a Pan Am silver medal in 1995. She won a bronze medal at the 1995 Champions Trophy and led the team by scoring three goals at the 1996 Olympic Games. She concluded her career with 110 international appearances. A graduate of Wakefield High School and the University of Iowa, Pankratz was a two-time All-America selection at Iowa (1984, '85) and the University of Iowa Female Athlete of the Year. She was a 1984 NCAA All-Tournament team selection and the recipient of a 1985-86 Big Ten Medal of Honor, and a first team selection to the Big Ten All-Decade Team (1981–91). Pankratz later on was assistant coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and head coach at the University of Michigan, where she led the Wolverines to the 2001 NCAA Championship.
