Maria Otero Politician

Maria Otero was the first holder of the office of The Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights from January 15, 2012 through February 4, 2013. The position is a newly created office which oversees U.S. foreign policy as it's concerned a group of eight bureaus and offices: The Bureaus of Conflict and Stabilization Operations; Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; International Narcotics and Law Enforcement; Population, Refugees and Migration; and Counter-terrorism; as well as the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons; Office of Global Criminal Justice; and Office of Global Youth Issues. She also served as the President’s Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues.
