Neil Duffy Football player

'Neil Duffy (born 5 June 1967 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former footballer who played in defence and midfield.Brought up in South Africa, Duffy began his career with Dundee United at the age of 17 after passing a first team trial whilst on holiday in 1985. However, soon after he returned to South Africa due to homesickness. In South Africa he played for Shamrocks FC with his father where they were both later inducted into the Hall of Fame. He returned to Tannadice during the 1989-90 season but left for Falkirk without making a first team appearance. Duffy spent three years at Brockville before moving to Dundee in 1993-94, where he stayed for a similar time. During his time at Dundee, he captained the side to the coca cola cup final but was unfortunately unsuccessful. In 1996-97, Duffy moved back to United for the third time, finally making his first appearance. Like his previous two clubs, Duffy gave three years of service before moving on, this time to Ayr United. During his time at Ayr United, Duffy was able to help the team to two consecutive Scottish Cup semi-finals and one CIS Cup final. In 2002-03, Duffy moved to Dumbarton, where he stayed until retiring in 2004. His time T Dumbarton provided his one and only red card which came in his last ever appearance. During his career, he was twice requested to play for South African National side by the manager, however he was blocked both times due to his race. After several years coaching at Ayr United's youth Academy, Duffy now works full-time as a Medical Rep and coaches Troon Juniors U19s. Neil first got started in football due to his father who also played professional football. Also named Neil Duffy, he played for Partick Thistle and St Johnstone and even gained a Scotland National Cap. Later in his career he managed South African Side Shamrocks FC to four consecutive league titles. He was later inducted into both the Shamrocks FC and Partick Thistle Hall of Fame.
