Pat Quinn Politician

Patrick Joseph "Pat" Quinn III (born December 16, 1948) is an American politician who served as the 41st Governor of Illinois. A member of the Democratic Party, Quinn served as Governor from 2009 until 2015. Quinn was defeated by Bruce Rauner in his bid for a second full term, in 2014.Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, Quinn is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law. Quinn began his career as a tax attorney in private practice before working as an aide to former Illinois Governor Dan Walker. He was elected to one term as a commissioner on the Cook County Board of Tax Appeals, serving from 1982 to 1986; later serving as revenue director in the administration of Chicago Mayor Harold Washington.After a failed campaign for State Treasurer in 1986, Quinn again ran for Treasurer of Illinois in 1990, serving one term from 1991 to 1995. In Illinois's 2002 gubernatorial election, Quinn was picked as the running mate of then Representative Rod Blagojevich. He was sworn into office as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 2003. Quinn assumed the governorship on January 29, 2009, after Governor Blagojevich was impeached and removed from office on corruption charges.Quinn was elected to a full term in office in the Illinois's 2010 gubernatorial election, defeating Republican State Senator Bill Brady with 46% of the vote. He then lost the Governor's seat in the Illinois's 2014 gubernatorial election. Quinn lost the 2014 campaign with 46% of the vote, to Bruce Rauner's 50%.
