Paul James Musical artist

Paul James (born January 18, 1951 in Toronto (Ontario), Canada) is a blues guitarist and vocalist, heading the Paul James Band.Paul James, born Paul James Vigna, originally was the founder & leader of his band Lick'n Stick.Lick'n'Stick's music was greatly influenecd by the first albums from of the Rolling Stones(with Brian Jones), Bob Dylan, Animals, John Hammond, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, and Chicago Blues musicians (Muddy Waters, Howin' Wolf, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Buddy Guy & Jr. Wells...) Lick'n'Stick had a record deal with Columbia Records and released a few singles...however,when Disco Music cornered the music market in the mid 1970's, Lick'n'Stick was dropped by Columbia because Paul didn't want to play/record/write Disco songs...Lick'n'Stick band members quit playing music for a living as there was no record deal and many Live Venues became Discotheques...Paul did not want to hire new musicians to form a new Lick'n'Stick. Instead, Paul started using his middle name James and went on to found The Paul James Band. Paul now managed his band and resurrected his own Independent Record Company, 'Lick'n'Stick Records. This way Paul could write, record, and produce his music how he wanted and how he thought his fans wanted... He has won a Juno Award in the Best Roots and Traditional Music category. In the past James has played with Bob Dylan and blues singers like Bo Diddley, John Hammond, Lightning Hopkins, Sunnyland Slim, Honeyboy Edwards,[Donny Walsh, [Downchild Blues Band]] and rockers Willie DeVille, Dr. John, Jeff Healey, Colin James, and Jack Scott. James was honoured with a Maple Blues Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012
