Percy Lawrie Cricketer

Percy Edward Lawrie (12 December 1902 – 2 February 1988) was an English cricketer. Lawrie was a right-handed batsman. Lawrie made his first-class debut for Hampshire against Glamorgan in the 1927 County Championship, where on debut Lawrie made scored 49 in Hampshire's first innings. In 1922 Lawrie made his debut for Oxford University against Middlesex. Lawrie would also play for the University in 1923 and 1924, altogether representing the University in five first-class matches where he scored 125 runs at an average of 15.62, with a high score of 39. During his time at the University Lawrie failed to get an Oxford Blue. In 1923 Lawrie made his maiden and only first-class century, scoring 107 against Leicestershire. Lawrie played regularly for Hampshire up until the end of the 1924 season, from thereafter he took a four year break for from the game, before returning in the 1928 County Championship, where he represented Hampshire four times, playing his final first-class match for Hampshire against Lancashire. Lawrie played 27 matches for Hampshire, scoring 959 runs at an average of 22.30, making a single century which yielded his highest first-class score of 107, as well as making four half centuries and taking fourteen catches. In Lawrie's overall first-class career he scored 1,084 runs at an average of 21.25, with all his scores of note coming for Hampshire. Lawrie was noted as a fine off-driver. Lawrie died at Teignmouth Hospital in Teignmouth, Devon on 2 February 1988.
