Peter Hughes

Peter Hughes (born 20 May 1922) is an English actor. In the 1950s, he was a stalwart of the Richmond Theatre repertory company with actress Anne Ridler. He played a recurring role as a bank manager in the BBC television series Bergerac and played General Franco in Alan Parker's 1996 film adaptation of Evita. Other notable roles include an English tourist in Love Is a Splendid Illusion (1970), a Maitre D' in The Great Muppet Caper (1981), the P&O manager in David Lean's A Passage to India (1984) and a policeman in the John Boorman film Hope and Glory (1987). He also appeared in An Englishman's Castle (1978), a serial of alternative history in which the Nazis won World War II, and the TV miniseries Jack the Ripper (1988) starring Michael Caine.
