Philip Riteman

Philip Riteman is an Auschwitz survivor who, in 1989, after forty years of silence, lectures on his experiences in public and private schools, community centres and universities in North America. Philip has recently visited Astral Drive Junior High School for the third time; (First being 2002/2003, second being 2010), Father Mercredi Highschool and Westwood Highschool, in Fort McMurray, May 5, 2011 and Prince Andrew High School, in Halifax, November 7, 2011. Riteman was thirteen years of age when he and his family were captured along with other Jews from his home in Szereszow. Luckily, he was able to pass as an eighteen-year-old because of his large build, saving his life. He performed hard labor for the Nazis from 1939 until May 2, 1945. His personal identification number was 98,706.
