On January 7, 2008, he signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets; he was later released. Cullen previously pitched for the New York Mets for the New Orleans Zephyrs and Binghamton Mets in 2007.Cullen signed in 2009 with Brother Elephants of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. In 29 games with them that season, he saved 20 games, and had an ERA of 0.56. He followed up in 2010 by compiling an 8-3 record, with record-breaking 34 saves and a 1.95 ERA.
