Stephan Veen Athlete

Stephan Patrick Veen (born 27 July 1970 in Groningen) is a retired field hockey forward and midfielder from The Netherlands, who twice became olympic champion with the Dutch national squad: in 1996 and in 2000. Veen made his debut for the Dutch on 14 January 1989 against Malaysia, and played his last match for the national side in the Olympic final in Sydney. There he scored three goals and converted the decisive penalty stroke against South Korea. Veen is married to a former field hockey international, Suzan van der Wielen. Twice (1998 and 2000) Veen was named World Hockey Player of the Year by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). His father Sietze is a former football (soccer) player, who's the chairman of soccer club De Graafschap from Doetinchem, since 2004.
