Suresh Perera Cricketer

Suresh Perera (full name Anhettige Suresh Asanka Perera; born February 16, 1978 in Colombo) is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Considered to be one of the most gifted Sri Lankan players, Perera's sideways action which giving him a great ability to swing the ball significantly has led him to be labelled as one of the better all-rounders currently playing the game in Sri Lanka - both accolades bestowed upon him by Dav Whatmore. Upon selection for his debut Test, he took the wicket of Alec Stewart and hit an entertaining innings, finishing just short of his half-century. Suffering from a stress fracture to the back, Perera spent a year out of the game before coming back to play for Sinhalese Sports Club. He played in the Coca-Cola Cup in July 2001 and a Test series of three games against India. Having been reported by umpire Steve Bucknor for possessing what he thought was an illegal bowling action, the first Test against India in August 2001 was to be his last, despite being cleared and remaining on the fringes of the Sri Lankan squad.
