Vauix Carter College coach
Vauix Carter was an American college football head coach who holds the distinction as being the Navy Midshipmen football program's very first head coach. He led Navy to a 1–0 record in 1882, the only season he coached the team. In that November 30 game, the Midshipmen defeated Johns Hopkins by a score of 8–0. Interestingly, Carter doubled as a player-coach in 1882 (the only year he lettered); he was a junior in 1882–83 and later graduated from the Naval Academy in 1884.
