Vishal Bhardwaj

Vishal Bhardwaj (born 4 August 1965) is an Indian film director, writer, screenwriter, producer, music composer and playback singer, known for his works in modern Hindi cinema. He produces films under his banner VB Pictures. He has received four National Film Awards. His directorial debut Makdee was screened in the Spotlight on India section at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. His films Maqbool and Omkara got screened in the Marché du Film (market section) of the 2004 and 2006 Cannes Film Festivals respectively.In 2014, he directed Haider which was premiered at the 19th Busan International Film Festival. The film received wide critical acclaim, and garnered attention from the media due to its controversial subject matter. Bhardwaj's direction, screenplay, and film score received acclaim from film critics. The film was also screened at the 9th Rome Film Festival where it won the People's Choice Award in the Mondo Genere category making it the first Indian film to achieve this feat.
