Wendy Smith-Sly Athlete

Wendy Smith-Sly (born 5 November 1959) is a former British athlete who competed mainly in the 3,000 metres. She developed a strong rivalry against South-African born Zola Budd, and there were many arguments between them. Sly represented Great Britain at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, U.S. in the 3,000 metres where she won the silver medal, soundly defeating Budd, only seventh at the end. In 1983 she became World Champion in the World 10 km road race championship (an event now contested over the Half-Marathon distance)
