Werner Ewald Military person

Werner Ewald (23 October 1914 – 5 October 1993) was a highly decorated Major in the Fallschirmjäger during World War II and an Oberst in the Bundeswehr. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. He was captured by American troops following the surrender of the garrison at Brest, he was held until 1946. In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr and served until retirement in 1973.
