William Stewart Cricketer

William Anthony Stewart (19 May 1847 - 31 July 1883) was an English cricketer. Stewart was a right-handed batsman who played primarily as a wicketkeeper. Stewart made his first-class debut for Oxford University in 1869 against the Marylebone Cricket Club. Stewart played for Oxford University five times in the 1869 season. In the same season, Stewart made his debut for Hampshire against the Marylebone Cricket Club. Shield played a single match for Hampshire in the 1869 season. In 1870, Stewart played two matches for Oxford University, with his final first-class match coming against Cambridge University. Eight years later Stewart played his last first-class match by representing Hampshire in a single fixture in 1878 against the Marylebone Cricket Club. Stewart, a wicketkeeper, made 9 stumpings and took 15 catches. Stewart died at Twyford, Hampshire on July 31, 1883.
