Wilson Kiprugut Athlete

Wilson Kiprugut Chuma (born 1938) is a Kenyan former athlete who competed mainly in the 800 metres. He competed at the 1962 Commonwealth Games and was part of the Kenyan 4 x 440 yards relay team which finished fifth. Other members of the relay team were Kimaru Songok, Peter Francis and Seraphino Antao. Kiprugut won the bronze medal in the 800 metres at the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan, thus becoming the first Kenyan athlete ever to win an olympic medal. At the 1966 Commonwealth Games he won 880 Yards bronze medal. Two years later, at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico, he improved one place to win the silver medal. He won two gold medals (in the 400 and 800 metres) at the inaugural All-Africa Games in 1965. He won the "Hall of Fame" category at the 2010 Kenyan Sports Personality of the Year awards
