Merritt Ranew Baseball player

Merritt Thomas Ranew (May 10, 1938 – October 18, 2011) was an American professional baseball catcher.Ranew was born in Albany, Georgia. He was selected in the 1961 MLB Expansion Draft by the Houston Colt .45s from the Milwaukee Braves. Ranew played for the Colt .45s (1962), Chicago Cubs (1963–1964), Milwaukee Braves (1964), California Angels (1965), and the Seattle Pilots (1969). He stood 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) and weighed 170 pounds (77 kg). He died in Valdosta, Georgia.In the minor leagues in 1966, Ranew was clubbed on the head with a bat by Santiago Rosario and seriously injured.
