Charles Roller College coach

Charles Summerville Roller, Jr. (September 8, 1879 – March 16, 1963) was the eighth head football coach for the Virginia Military Institute Keydets located in Lexington, Virginia and he held that position for two seasons, from 1907 until 1908. Roller had previously been head football at Furman University in 1901 and 1902. Highlights of the 1902 season were wins over North Carolina State University and University of South Carolina. From 1903 until 1913 Furman did not field a football team. His career coaching record at VMI was 8 wins, 5 losses, and 0 ties. This ranks him 15th at VMI in total wins and seventh at VMI in winning percentage.His father, Charles Summerville Roller was one of the founders of the Augusta Military Academy. Charles Summerville, Jr. also served as principal of that particular school later in his life.
