José Linhares President
José Linhares, (Portuguese pronunciation: [ʒuˈzɛ ʎĩˈȷ̃aɾis]; January 28, 1886 – January 26, 1957) served as President of the Supreme Federal Court from 1945 to 1956. He assumed the presidency of Brazil from 1945 to 1946, between the deposition of Getúlio Vargas and the oath of Eurico Gaspar Dutra. During his provisional administration, measures were taken to re-establish a democratic system of government.
