Walter Drexler Military person

Walter Drexler (25 September 1916 – February 1945) was a Sturmbannführer (Major) in the Waffen-SS during World War II. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. This was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.Walter Drexler was born on the 25 September 1916, in Ulm. He volunteered to join the SS-VT (SS number 239247) and took part in the Anschluss of Austria in March 1938. During World War II he was awarded the Knight's Cross in December 1944 while in command of the 8th SS Reconnaissance Battalion, 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer.Drexler was reported missing in action presumed dead during the attempted breakout from Budapest in February 1945.
