William Joseph Dendinger Cleric
William Joseph Dendinger (born May 20, 1939) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Appointed by Saint John Paul II'>Pope John Paul II, he served as the seventh Bishop of Grand Island, Nebraska from December 13, 2004, until his resignation was accepted by Pope Francis on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Pope Francis named the Reverend Monsignor Joseph G. Hanefeldt, a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha who had been named a Chaplain of His Holiness (monsignor) in 2009 and had been serving, since 2012, as Pastor of Christ the King Parish in Omaha, and as a member of the Archdiocese's Personnel Board and Presbyteral Council, to succeed Bishop Emeritus Dendinger. He will be ordained and installed as Bishop at a date in the near future. The Diocese of Grand Island is a part of the ecclesiastical province of Omaha.
